Dual AMP Regulators and 89cc Power Plenum

The defining feature of the Maverick Compact is its dual regulator system. The first regulator pre-reduces pressure before the second regulator, resulting in exceptionally consistent output . Moreover, both regulators adjust externally, and you should maintain a 30-40 bar difference between them . The 89cc Power Plenum is the largest FX has ever fitted to an airgun, providing ample air volume for heavy slugs and pellets . The rear external power adjuster offers seven macro presets plus fine-tuning via a hex bolt . The smooth sidelever cycles reliably, and the adjustable match trigger is described as among the best available . Consequently, the Maverick Compact delivers performance approaching the FX Impact at a lower price point.

Known FX Maverick Compact Problems Owners Report

Owners report several significant issues worth knowing. Regulator problems appear frequently, with one owner unable to get their first regulator above 100 bar despite following tuning guides . Moreover, quality control issues have occurred, with one unit arriving with an incorrect delrin piston from a bad batch . The online O-ring schematic contains errors, with incorrect durometer ratings and a wrong-sized O-ring in the printed insert . Cocking pin walk-out has been reported, with one owner noting their cocking pin “walking itself out” . Some owners find the Compact struggles to push heavy slugs at high velocity without hammer weight changes . Therefore, owner feedback suggests stocking spare O-rings and verifying regulator function upon receipt.

Accuracy, Pellet Choice, and Range Performance

Pellet choice significantly impacts the Maverick Compact’s accuracy. The Superior STX barrel delivers excellent results with FX Hybrid Slugs, achieving 840 fps with an 8-fps variation and one-inch groups at 50 yards in high winds . Moreover, JSB Exact pellets perform well, though point-of-impact shifts approximately two inches compared to slugs . The dual regulator system delivers consistent velocities when working correctly. Consequently, test multiple pellet weights and slug designs to find what your individual barrel prefers. The Compact excels at small game hunting and target shooting within 50-75 yards. One reviewer confirmed taking a 30-pound pig at 45 yards with a single shot behind the ear . For shooters wanting more power, the Slug Power Kit unlocks the Maverick’s full potential with heavier projectiles.

FINAL VERDICT

The FX Maverick Compact represents strong value in a dual-regulated bullpup platform. It offers dual AMP regulators, an 89cc plenum, and a 500mm barrel at an accessible price point . However, regulator issues, quality control variability, and O-ring schematic errors mean it suits shooters willing to maintain and tune their rifle rather than expecting turnkey perfection. Purchase from a reputable European retailer with warranty support and knowledge of local regulations. Consider adding the FX Maverick Slug Power Kit for heavy projectile performance, and spare O-rings to address common wear points . A pellet sampler pack helps you find the best ammunition for your barrel. Therefore, verify your country’s energy limits before ordering, as regulations vary across EU member states including Sweden, Finland, and Estonia. Shop at Airgun Armoury.
