Technical Specifications and European Availability

The AEA Zeus GEN 2 is available in .58 (14.73mm) and .72 (18.3mm) calibres. The 32-inch barrel version delivers velocities up to 900 FPS (274 m/s) with 820-grain slugs, producing approximately 1500 FPE (2033 Joules) . The 16-inch barrel version produces around 675 FPE with 500-grain slugs . Overall length measures 1270mm for the 32-inch model, with weight at 5.26 kg . The 660cc air capacity fills to a maximum of 300 bar (4500 PSI) . The barrel features a 23mm CW thread for muzzle accessories . A Weaver/Picatinny rail accepts optics. Therefore, shooters in Sweden, Finland, and Estonia should verify local energy limits and licensing requirements before ordering, as high-power airguns require appropriate permits in most EU member states.

Side Lever Action and Single-Shot Design

The Zeus GEN 2’s defining feature is its side lever cocking system. This design handles the massive .72 calibre slugs smoothly and reliably . Moreover, the single-shot loading system via the smooth side lever works flawlessly according to European retailer feedback . The unregulated PCP system requires attention to the remaining fill pressure during use, as velocity drops as pressure decreases . The single action trigger system responds directly and predictably . The safety catch is intuitively placed for right-handed shooters. Consequently, the rifle delivers a shooting experience that demands respect and expertise. The .95 calibre variant exists as an even more extreme option for shooters seeking the ultimate in airgun power.

AEA Zeus GEN 2 Problems Owners Report

Owners report several consistent issues worth knowing. Trigger weight is a frequent complaint, with the factory trigger described as “very, very heavy” compared to other air rifles, requiring significant effort and causing accuracy issues . The Zeus GEN 2 addressed this by reducing trigger pull from 7-9 pounds down to approximately 4 pounds . Moreover, filling issues have occurred with the regulated German version, where the fill probe must be held firmly against the port to accept air, and the probe can eject with a loud bang if not properly seated . The magazine-free single-shot design is reliable but slow for follow-up shots. Some owners note the rifle weighs 5.26 kg, making it unsuitable for extended carrying. Therefore, owner feedback suggests testing the fill system and trigger function upon receipt.

Accuracy, Slug Choice, and Range Performance

Slug choice significantly impacts the Zeus GEN 2’s accuracy. Owners report excellent results with mid-weight slugs around 460-530 grains in the 16-inch barrel version . Moreover, Maxibal .73 calibre slugs weighing nearly 1000 grains performed well at 100 metres, with one reviewer achieving a “rather nice group” on first testing . Mr. Hollowpoint slugs are recommended for big bore applications, with solid guidance on weight, profile, and sizing . The 32-inch barrel provides the flattest trajectory and highest velocity, making it the premier choice for long-range shooting . Consequently, test multiple slug weights and profiles to find what your individual barrel prefers. The unregulated system requires consistent fill pressure for optimal accuracy.

Final Verdict

The AEA Zeus GEN 2 represents exceptional value in an extreme big bore PCP platform. It offers side lever reliability, 2000 Joules of power, and multiple barrel length options. Purchase from a reputable European retailer with warranty support and knowledge of local regulations. Consider adding a heavy-duty bipod, as the rifle’s weight demands stable support.
